When are the results for the summer stem program supposed to come out? I’m a rising junior but have not had any emails sent to me yet.
@TheGreatApple32 At the latest, you will be notified by the 1st of May. However, since it is a rolling admission, you could be notified anytime in between. I am a rising junior as well, and I got my acceptance about a month ago.
Thanks.
Just notified that I was not accepted to the STEM session for rising 11th graders. I’m from NJ’s 7th district. I am a varsity cross-country/track runner, honor student with a 96.5 out of 100 grade average, Life Scout, editor of my school newspaper, and do other things like volunteering and marching band. I would guess that since in my personal statement I had said that I had participated in the STEM Jamboree twice at the academy before, the admissions personnel knew that I had already experienced the Naval Academy and it’s STEM program and wanted to give a chance to someone somewhere else who had not. Of course, this is also the second time I’ve been denied, so maybe I’m just a weak applicant. Who knows. Anyway, my sincere congratulations to those 640 who were accepted, it’s going to be awesome! Lastly, I encourage any 11th graders that were denied admission like I was to just keep working at building your application strength if you really want to get in to the Academy- I know that’s what I’ll be doing.
My son wound up going to STEM last summer (2015) and had an excellent experience. Good luck to everyone headed there this summer!
My daughter is leaving tomorrow… Rising 10th. There was a lot of valuable info on this!
@bandathlete157 You are NOT a weak applicant by any means. I truly believe this is an outreach program to include people from underrepresented areas and ethnicities and honestly it also caters to military dependents as well. I have been tracking the people in our area who have been chosen over the last several years and I also spoke with the chosen participants from the past years and asked them who they met at the programs. One girl my daughter met had no interest in STEM or the Naval Academy. She wanted to be a lawyer. Her mother filled out the application for her and her dad was a high ranking navy officer and she was 1/2 Asian. Another girl we know had average grades and average school participation in just a few clubs. No athletics, band or high level academics but her dad was an Air Force aviator and she made it. If you are a high achieving and very smart white male with no military background in your family and you live in a well represented area, it will be very tough for you to make it. Sorry but that is just how I see it. Now actual academy appointments will be different. Even those, though, can be frustrating. We knew an area swimmer who barely scraped by with an ACT of 26 and got in to the Air Force Academy . She had originally scored only a 25 and the recruiter told her as soon as she made a 26 her name would move to a much better position and of course, she got in! Keep doing what you are doing and take the most challenging classes you possibly can. I also highly encourage you to consider ROTC programs as close friends of mine from the Air Force and Navy ( pilots, engineers and physicians) both feel the ROTC programs tend to produce more well rounded and tougher officers. There is a lot less hand holding and catering to the success of the student. You have to be disciplined and control your own schedule if you want to succeed in both your chosen college major and the ROTC program. There is less support and you learn to rely on yourself. I am not knocking the academies but only repeating what people in the actual service have told me and this includes an Air Force Academy pilot graduate himself!
