USNA Summer STEM

Hi all
Seeing that they have rolling admissions, has anyone heard yet for USNA Summer STEM? I know my son heard last year in April but he applied later. He really enjoyed it last year as a rising freshman and wants to attend again this year. Has anyone done multiple years? Thanks.

We just heard today! Accepted!

Curious, when did submit the app?

I think she did it a few weeks ago.

My daughter got her acceptance yesterday. Applied the day the app opened.

Thanks. We haven’t heard anything yet. Son went last year and is hoping for this year as well. I know there was the glitch online with the applications and hope his did indeed go through.

Anyone else heard anything? What area of the country and what year is your son/daughter?

My son applied three weeks ago on 2/17 (from Southern Cal), haven’t heard anything yet.

Do they normally email you the notice of acceptance or via physical mail?

Checking:My child applied for stem for 2018 but has not got an AL,but was invited over to USNA for the day to take a tour, eat lunch and look at stem labs.My child applied last year and made to the reserve list but did not get invited over for the day long session.I am trying to figure if the chances of acceptance are better this year because of the invite to come on 3-12-18.

We heard last year via email. It was on Spring break so decisions should be coming out if you haven’t heard yet. Still waiting here. Don’t know if the fact that he went last year or not makes a difference.

Quick Update: still waiting for any response (applied on 2/17). Anybody been accepted from Southern California?

We haven’t heard yet (midwest) but I did hear that they generally don’t take kids more than one year. So I think my son’s application is pretty much a ‘No’ I wish the application web site stated this somewhere. Oh well. Good luck to all applying.

Was told on USNA chat today that all acceptances will be sent out via email on 5/1/18.

Hello i’m a 9th grader who has applied for this camp. I applied in March but have all A’s and I am in the science club and engineering club. I play Varsity Baseball and Football, but I live in rural Kentucky. Is there any chance I could get in.

This must have been a competitive pool from Orange County, CA because my 9th grade DS was just rejected. His qualifications were as follows: first semester grades were one B, all As; all honors classes plus advanced math. To be fair, his one B was in math, even though it was advanced math (finished geometry in 8th grade, taking trigonometry in 9th), so I’m going to assume that as a STEM prospect, there were more applicants with better math grades. Part of the reason he struggled in math was because of his desire for a well rounded education so he was unable to manage his time: honors Latin, honors Mandarin plus year round club swimming - partly a maturity thing, he’s only 14 (skipped 3rd grade). Needless to say, a hard lesson for him, but there’s always next year.

Anybody else from OC, please share your experiences!

Rock solid STEM grades, and they limit acceptances based on geographic region, so if there’s not a lot of qualified applicants from Kentucky, you have a very good shot. You should be getting your response this weekend, Good Luck.

Yes it is really geographically based. My son got accepted last year and loved the camp. Applied again this year and hasn’t heard anything (except his chances are slim with him already having attended). The STEM camp is more of a marketing tool for USNA than something like Summer Seminar. It is very competitive but don’t fret that he isn’t on par etc. Sounds like he is doing great. My son last year also wain all honors, geometry etc. and all As plus year round swimmer…LOL So very similar. Aldo did robotics. But we are in Nebraska. So the pool of applicants was smaller. Apply again next year and since they generally can only go one year, the older years in high school might be more rewarding.
