Summer Sublet Suggestions in NYC

Hello - my son has an internship in midtown Manhattan this summer, and his original housing plans just fell through. I have checked with every college dorm in NYC (full or not offering summer housing) and thought I would check here to see if anyone had other ideas for where to look for summer sublets. Not having much luck with LeaseBreak, and a number of other sites will only consider leases for a year or longer. We will likely end up considering outside the city (ie, Brooklyn, Queens, Hoboken, etc), but would prefer to minimize the commute as much as possible and will look into that if nothing else materializes. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Sorry, no suggestions for Manhattan itself but Hoboken is not bad at all. A ferry ride away. Jersey City (Paulus Hook/Exchange Place area) is another option.

Executive Plaza in midtown does short term rentals (minimum 30 days). Somewhat pricey, but anything for summer internship in NYC seems to be (my D did a college dorm and this is not that much more with significant amenities). On the upside - he would have no commuting costs (and there is an onsite gym if that would ordinarily be an added cost) and can likely rent for the exact term of his internship. Worth checking. Here’s the link. Good luck.

This is the group my daughter went through. Looking now I see it is a good bit less expensive. Looks like midtown rooms may still be available - worth checking. The building she stayed in (part of Marymount and 2 blocks from her internship) is not available but there is a midtown location as well as others.

Didn’t mean to reply to myself. Just posted the link to the site my D used for her internship.

I just sent a message through their website. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is your son on Reddit? College kids are starting to post their sublets — recently on the NYU sub-reddit, for instance. He could answer sublet posts or create a post there, and also on forums for other nyc colleges.

My D stayed at Executive Plaza last summer (linked above) and is staying at one of the NYC Student Housing buildings this summer, also linked above. Both are pricey and required parent subsidization, even though she is making good salaries at banking internships.

Executive Plaza was an easy walk to her internship last summer and a decent location, BUT she wanted to be farther south in Manhattan this summer because that’s where more of the night life is.

Check Facebook to see if local colleges have sublet boards. Seem to be more people looking for housing than subletting, but it’s a place to start. I tried to link to Pratt’s, but the link didn’t work. You should be able to find it by searching Facebook.
