Summer Theatre

I am looking at making plans for travel this summer, and have a question about the summer theatre musical. Are the performers only students from the Otterbein program? I was really hoping to go to see Into the Woods in April, but schedules don’t allow, so I was wondering if the summer show would be a similar chance to see a performance.

They are all students (as far as I know), and are directed by faculty. I don’t think that schedule is on the university website, though. Would you like to know the shows and dates, or did you already find out?

I would love to know! Thank you so much! I was thinking it would be a similar time-frame as last year. Specific dates would be terrific. and thank you for letting me know we will see students. I’m so excited!

The musical is The All Night Strut, July 9 - 25. Please note that the performances are usually on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so over three long weekends. And in case you are interested, Clybourne Park runs June 4-13 and
The Nerd runs June 18 - July 3. Keep checking the Otterbein site for the specific show dates to be posted. I’m using the information that was in a flyer insert in The Greeks program. Hope you enjoy the show!!

^That’s the info that was sent to students, too…and since @entertainersmom’s son is in Clybourne Park and mine is in The Nerd, we will happily volunteer them to talk to your kids if you are there for one of the shows–right? There will be students involved all summer working on tech, box office, etc., as well.

Yes, yes, yes! All sounds wonderful! I would love to have my daughter meet your kids, if one or both are available and are not too busy. I am going to keep track of those dates when I’m planning our trip. Thank you both so much. So kind of you to take the time to answer!

Always feel free to PM with questions, @MTmom019!

@Times3‌ YAY! I didn’t know that, congrats!!

I second @MTMajorCook! Congratulations, @Times3 and @entertainersmom! I’m sure they’ll have a wonderful summer. Our first taste of Otterbein theatre was their summer theatre in July of 2005. The show was Crimes of the Heart and it was excellent!

The link to this summer’s season is now up: http://www.otterbein.edu/public/About/Calendars/ArtScene/TheatreDancePerformances/ost.aspx
Yay!

Thanks!!

Thank you! I’m looking forward to a summer trip, but somehow can’t let go of the idea of coming to see Into the Woods! Maybe I can work around our schedules and come to see both! Would we get to see your boys, @Times3‌ and @entertainersmom‌?

And @abparent‌, do you have a child currently there, too?

@MTmom019‌, my son and entertainersmom’s are both acting majors and are not in Into the Woods (but abparents son is). You probably know that kids in both MT and acting programs audition for (and could be cast in) all types of shows. Our boys (mine’s a sophomore and hers is a freshman) were both in The Greeks earlier this winter, and both are in “straight” plays in OST.

I’m going out to see Into the Woods for the closing weekend–let me know if you will be there!

Got it–thank you! I will definitely let you know if we can make it. It will be difficult to pull off, so most likely the summer shows would work best. I appreciate your replies so much. Thank you!

Yes, @MTmom019, our son is a junior, cast as Jack in ITW. We’ll actually be there closing weekend as well. Let us know if you can actually make it as we’d love the chance to say Hello. If not, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the summer show! Our oldest actually is a 2010 MT grad from Otterbein, so we’ve seen a lot of the school over the years. As the other parents have mentioned, I’m sure our son would be happy to connect with your daughter and also introduce her to some of the girls in the program as well, if she’d like to correspond that way, (not that the guys’ perspective doesn’t count) Just offering! @Times3, perhaps we’ll actually get to meet in April!

Thank you, @abparent‌- and how wonderful for him to be cast as Jack! We’d be delighted to see him! Y’all are the sweetest!
