S & I are planning a first visit either around June 30 or July 30 as he will be in the South for the month of July. Will anyone be on campus 7/31 or 8/1 that it would make a difference? Any of the orientations happening; or is June 30 preferable before people leave for summer vacations? He will go down for an overnite or something in the fall, but we are excited to tour since we will be fairly close. Will the honors people and everyone important be around for most of the summer? I will confirm everything before we pick a date, but wanted to see what the CW said.

Most Sorority girls will need to be back on 8/1. The returning members return a week before recruitment begins. We are planning on driving down on the 31st to move into off campus apartment on the 1st.

I would check to see what is the best day to check out the academic areas your S is interested in!

Bumping this up for more info: Who do we want to meet with-
Who at Honors college? Do we start there?
S wants to major in Psychology or Journalism. Do we meet with heads of those depts?
Anyone else? If he is applying to CBHP, anyone there?
Anyone in scholarships or Admissions?

Jami Gates handles recruitment at Alabama’s Honor College. You should start with her. She will give you a very nice overview of the program. She also may be able to arrange a tour, a chance for you to speak with certain department heads, an opportunity to see an honors dorm, to meet with one of the honors college ambassadors who are students who can give you further information about the school, etc.

Dr. Shane Sharpe is the dean of the honors college, but also is in charge of CBH. Make time to meet with him.

Initial scholarships are based on SAT/ACT and GPA. They are automatic, so you really do not need to meet with someone in scholarships/admissions about this.

I thought I asked this somewhere but I can’t find it. Do we bring anything for appointments - like resume, unofficial transcript? S is planning on meeting with Dean Sharpe(?) to talk about cbhp and Dept Heads.

When we visited with Dr. Sharpe, we did bring transcripts and left a copy with him.

You don’t need to bring a resume or unofficial transcript in my opinion. Dr. Sharpe is really good about remembering people when he sees them again in later months. It may be just my style, but I see the meetings more as “get to know you” sessions with a little self-promotion on everybody’s part. Sure, your S should explain why CBHP is good for him, but the whole meeting need not be about him going to UA, especially if both share a similar hobby.
