@jbtcat if you click on submit you’ll see the locations for the live prescreens. Many of the dates have already passed.
@jbtcat In the FAQ’s for when is the deadline to apply it has more details. College live pre-screens (48 hrs before), NY based actors live pre-screen (10/15) and video submissions (12/1). I think what I didn’t understand at first is that what my D is applying for is the NY based actors even though she is still in college, she is not applying for one of the college locations but the one that is in NY for anyone. I am guessing if my assumption is correct, that she will hear back sometime after the 10/15 deadline.
Email them directly I got answers in 24 hours
does anyone know how and where to submit a video pre screen?? On the website it says to email our headshot and resume but not the pre screen.
@actsingdanceMT20 - I am pretty sure that after you submit the application with the headshot and resume indicating you are doing the video submission and pay the fee, then you get an email with instructions on how to submit the video.
@KatMT I’m curious, was it just the A1 rep’s that came to your school? Are they still run by the Growing Studio folks, do you know? I looked everywhere on their website and found no information in that regard.
If you aren’t comfortable answering this, I understand: Did your school have to pay for A1 rep’s to come? I’m just wondering why some programs chose not to initiate this process, which is a fantastic opportunity for kids still in college! Kudos to you all for hosting them! (To be clear, my kid is no long in college, and has a spot for NYC auditions, I’m just curious about the changes this year.)
Just wanted to say hope SETC screenings have been going well/continue to go well for everyone doing them! D is headed to hers today. New experience as she put together her own summer stock last year and didn’t do any of the other summer stock auditions.
Anyone know how many people A1 sends through to final auditions in Jan? How many have they been taking from various schools? They had their 2nd live prescreen in NYC today - d had a bunch of Friends go (she actually went along with one for moral support) and we got talking. Found a post from a a year or two ago that said they were only taking 100… (which would be >5 per prescreen location this year, and wondered if that was accurate info.
I can answer at least part of my own question… D’s roommate (whom she went with yesterday) passed the prescreen. (which was a nice quick answer- audition was at noon, had answer by 9:00) and in the email it said they screened more than 1900 people. Still don’t know how many got through (anyone?) but it’s interesting info
@toowonderful, I think about 30 were passed through at my daughter’s school, so I would say the 100 slots isn’t accurate for this year.
I heard it’s more like 500-600 will get passed
So if 500-600 will be there in Jan, the next question is- how does that compare to the numbers at straw hats?
StrawHat website says 700+ performers. Is the 500-600 just the estimate for college students at A-1? Since they do a day for AEA actors, 2 days for non-union and 3 days for college students.
For comparison, Midwest Theatre Auditions have 430 or so slots over two-and-one-half days. If A-1 has three days for college students, then figure something in that range. At a couple of minutes per audition you can do 20-30 per hour and 200 or so in a long day.
I don’t think it’s 500…last year auditions were Saturday and Sunday and callbacks started on Sunday. This year they are having a mixer Friday for the college students as well as invited them to attend Sponge Bob the Musical, so I don’t think it’s 500… it’s probably closer to 250 or less. They are also offering a lot of workshops with resident directors of current Broadway shows or artistic directors of the theatres that will be auditioning, limited to 15 people a workshop which are 3 hour workshops and they work the audition around the workshops. If there were that many invited to audition it would seem to be a scheduling nightmare, so I don’t think the numbers are that high.
@Troykat Since they prescreened at 26 schools, 2 other locations AND did video submissions and we already know they took 30 students from just one of the school locations- guessing it is way more than 250…
It will be interesting to find out…I still don’t think it’s 500…some schools obviously had more accepted than others. I’m curious which school they took 30 from.
If the school your child is at passed 30 that is a huge number for a school. Most I have been hearing about have only passed 2 to 5 at most so I highly doubt it will be 500. My daughter passed via video but was the only one from her school who did pass and about 20 auditioned. This will be our first adventure with this group so we are keeping an eye out. So much is changing in this industry and with so many schools doing showcases in NYC now, we are always looking at new ways of getting in front of the right people. Love SETC and UPTA… but it can be just as difficult and expensive to do those. I applaud anyone who is able to get through to these screenings. Here’s hoping the best for all your kids. Can’t believe that mine will be graduating and out in the professional world come May. Seems just like yesterday I was helping her audition for college.
@NAtlantaStudio - Think I know who you are and yay for her! I heard about it. I do think there is still a group of students that are still submitting videos to beat the deadline, so fingers crossed for them as well! D made it through to SETC and this is the first time she has auditioned so should be an experience there for us as well.
@Stagedoormama didnt know there were others who still submitting. Fingers crossed for them!
