Summer writing, esp. playwriting

My daughter is interested in summer writing programs, especially playwriting. Last summer she was at Kenyon, which she enjoyed very much. She will probably look at Iowa, UVa, and Sewanee, all of which (it seems to me) are similar in some ways to Kenyon. She's not too interested in Interlochen.

I was wondering if anybody has experience with the dramatic writing program at Tisch? It seems different--essentially you take two college courses, playwriting and screenwriting. It sounds pretty regimented (little free time, no visitors, no leaving), and it's awfully expensive. I can't tell how selective it is. Thoughts?

Just an FYI, UVA isn’t having their summer writing program this year due to construction on campus.
I saw a thread or two here about the NYU summer program. I was looking at that one for my son who is a sophomore. But the website states that juniors have a preference so he’ll wait for next summer to try for it. They do offer a scholarship for dramatic writing but I think it’s for minorities.

I think their scholarship is just need-based.

I met a girl at a writing conference last week who went to Iowa for playwriting last summer and loved it.

If she happens to be interested in multiple types of writing, not just playwriting, she might reconsider Interlochen.

She doesn’t want to wear a uniform and give up her cell phone, so no Interlochen.
