Summer

Hi everyone,

So...on college applications there are always those slots that are like list summer programs, blahblahblah

But I'm just wondering: Do I really need to sign up for any "summer programs"?

Can't I just find things to do on my own, that I enjoy, without some fancy itinerary?

I like building things. I do this on my own. I do not attend a "Younger Builder Scholars' Academy" or whatnot over summer.

Do things I do on my own initiative qualify as "summer programs"?

And do you think not signing up for programs over summer is okay? Since honestly, they are expensive, and I'm not really interested while I can personalize my learning experience or whatnot even more in my own garage.

What do you guys think? Can people be accepted into MIT without "programs/camps"?

On MIT’s application, they want to know what you did over the summer, but the answer is not supposed to be restricted to formal camps. Listing things that you did on your own is a perfectly acceptable answer to this question.
