my son a junior received scholarships to attend the Catalyst program at Cornell (1 week)and to Academic Connections 3 week program at UCSD (both engineering related). They both in the summer and he has to choose one.We from out of state for both these Universities and unable to afford tuition for these colleges.Which one of the two do you recommend and would look more impressive on a college application ...... a one week at an Ivy league school or 3 weeks at the bioengineering/bioinformatics at UCSD ? Please help!

IMO, 1 week is far too short to do or learn much. The UCSD program also sounds a bit more specialized, so I’d go with that unless money or commute is a problem.

Reputation and ‘name’ of summer camps don’t mean much in terms college admissions (aside from heavy weight research or competition oriented programs like RSI); it’s what one learns and gains from the program that matters. And the longer the program, generally, the greater amount one learns.

Thank you! This is what he is leaning towards but as the Cornell one was so hard to get into ,very competitive, prestigious and we suspect they choose students they might want to eventually see at the university he is hesitant to let the opportunity pass.
