Sunday In The Park With George - closing at the end of June

Hi,

Has anyone seen this production? It's closing at the end of June and I'd like to see it but not sure if its worth it. I'd love some opinions. I'm sure I'd go if it were playing through the summer but its hard to make the time right now. Our techie theatre son wants to see it - heard the lighting and technical aspects are amazing.

Do you recommend it?
thanks

YES - if your S wants to see it, GO. Hubby & I saw SITPWG many years ago with Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin, and actually purchased the "album." ;)

I saw the current production and would recommend it highly for everything: the music, the acting, the story and the technical aspects. It's a lovely, wonderful musical. See it if you can. You won't be sorry.

There are seats on the left and right pretty close to the front of the stage still available. It looks like eveyone is avoiding the seats on the far ends of these sections. The other choice is more in the middle but in the last row or two of the orchestra section - which would you choose?

Hmmm, my D and I got rush tickets and they were pretty lousy seats: up in the balcony on the far right, and behind a railing. I had to crane my neck to see. Still, loved the show. If I were to choose, I think the seats more in the middle but further back would be better. You will have a straight shot at seeing everything.

I just saw this on Broadway and it is excellent. The fact that your son is a techie is even more reason to see it. The technical aspects and staging were very innovative. Of course the acting and music and all the rest was very good too. I recommend you seeing it if you can. I had orchestra seats in the center but I would think the sides would be just fine the way the set was set up.

Everyone, go see it while you can! (As an aside, for those who care about these things, in the cast is a Michigan graduate, Brynn O'Malley. She plays Celeste #1.)

My wife and daughter are in New York as we speak and saw SITPWG last night. They left an 11:30 pm message on the machine raving about it and couldn't stop talking about it when I caught up with them this afternoon. My D is a huge Sondheim fan. She studied SITPWG with Brent Wagner and sang a couple of numbers from it at MPulse last summer. When we were in Chicago for unifiedsshe and I went to the Art Institue and sat for an hour looking at and talking about the painting and the musical. Seeing it on Broadway was her version of heaven.

Ken,

My daughter saw it with me as well last month on Broadway and she is also a huge Sondheim fan and wrote papers on him in HS. This past year, she was assigned in a musical scene class (in a BFA in MT program) to sing one of the main duets for the lead with a male student playing George and that was heaven. She loved this production on Bdway and had never seen this musical staged before. Ironically, my other daughter (who was not with us) had made a 3 D ceramic plaque that is hanging in her bedroom at home, back in HS, of this very painting!
