sunglasses

Can they have sunglasses after plebe summer?

To the best of my knowledge, mids can't wear sunglasses while in uniform.

Agreed.

Doesn't mean I didn't do it occaisionally, though! :D

Does this also mean during pt/ running etc...?

Correct. In short, sunglasses are (or at least were) verboten.

ETA: It occurs to me that this may only apply during ORGANIZED PT and such. If you are running on your own, I'm not sure if they'd make a big deal of it or not.

Here's where one of the current Mids can pull the regs and give the definitive answer.

What about for all those want to be pilots? When I see pilots, I never see them without sunglasses b/c their vision is so important to them

Well, many of the mids at NASS wore sunglasses everywhere. There is a fairly large collection of them in the mid store as well, so who knows.

Obviously, mids can wear sunglasses when not in uniform. And, officers can wear sunglasses (as I recall). The MidStore caters not only to mids but to officers, enlisted, professors and their families stationed at USNA.

In my day (granted, some time ago), the ONLY time you could wear sunglasses was 2/C year after you had your eyes dilated as part of your commissioning/flight physical. It was a big deal, but alas, it only lasted for about 24 hrs.

However, things may have changed.

There are no regulations prohibiting MIDN from wearing sunglasses. With this being said, do not wear them over plebe summer (unless at practice or something), because you will stand out.

I am not sure what BUPERS says about sunglasses in the UNIREG instruction; but, MIDN may wear them in and out of uniform, except at formations, parades, etc.

So you can wear them? Haha I'm confused. I hope so, because I have blue eyes and I've always heard that they're much more sensitive to light. I always wear sunglasses to protect my eyes. Just to darn bright for me.

GlitterHairDye - earlier posts from Wheelah44 and others said DO NOT wear sunglasses during plebe summer. I'd go with their rec. :)

I won't. I just would like to. But we can't always get what we want. haha

My daughter bought Jake some Oakleys for graduation and so we were just wondering. They do look cool with a shaved head! He just wanted to do his running with them on during the year etc.. not in plebe summer.

Uniform regs state that the sunglasses must be black or dark in appearance, have a single color black frame, and may not be reflective (IE not like some sunglasses that have pink reflection or what not, obviously lenses reflect light but use better judgement). This is why I own Maui Jim's and Oakley's. Not very reflective, solid black frames, and comfortable. Oh also may not be worn in parades or other official events such as Change of command, commissioning, etc

So would my costas work?
