Suny at Albany v CUNY John Jay for criminal justice major?

Hi guys, so i wasn’t to get into criminal justice but also have some sort of concentration in law as well. Im torn between
UA and John Jay, I want to stay in state. any student go o these schools? reviews are much needed thank you

Hey, I go to the University at Albany so I may be a little biased. However, if you look at ranking, UA’s CJ program is ranked 2nd in the country! Also, if you are looking into law schools, we are now affiliated with the Albany Law School which is very close to UA distance wise. Still, if that’s not where you want to go for law school, UA sends its graduates to some pretty great law schools elsewhere. Our political science program is also pretty well regarded, which is something you could minor in.

Also, we have two great law fraternities (if that’s your thing), Phi Alpha Delta and Kappa Alpha Pi which would be a fun way to meet people with similar interests, build your resume, etc. I am actually a brother of KAPi!

Plus, I think UA has more of a campus community vibe. I could be totally wrong, but I am assuming just based on the fact that John Jay is in the city. One thing though… I think John Jay might be cheaper. Not positive on this though.

Hi! Thanks so much for responding. I applied to UA, still waiting to see if I got accepted on my transfer apps. Im thinking of just applying to UA. But being a student, honestly how it the campus vibe? or even the town like? I heard its a little “grey” and ghetto at times? Just want an insiders perspective! Thank you!

Sorry for the late response!

I think the whole “grey campus” thing is during the winter, the campus can look a little dull. It’s kind of hard to explain. There are all of these underground tunnels that connect each building on SUNY (minus the dorms), so it seems a little quiet during the winter because you don’t see a lot of people outside.

However, during the warmer weather, everyone can be found hanging out at the fountain/chilling on collins circle. It is a very lively place during warm weather! Even fall. As for the ghetto thing, it’s definitely not. Uptown campus is closer to a town called Guilderland; the city of Albany is like DOWN downtown, far enough away from SUNY Albany. There is definitely campus pride, too.

No worries! Thanks for getting back. Im just hoping I’m able to afford it. Really do not want to be in debt, o you know how the financial aid is? or if theres merit scholarships?
