Suny binghamton transfer

Chance me?

I'm a freshman at Suny cortland looking to transfer to bing for the spring semester into harpur.*

The facts:*

-when you're transferring in and it's been less than two years since you were in high school, they consider your hs gpa as well as your sat/act scores. I don't know the degree to which they do this, but here it is:

-I attended a very prestigious, well- respected public high school in upstate NY
-my GPA wasn't great, but I have high regents scores and my gpa was an 83
- senior year I took 5 college classes and had a 91 average overall. 2nd semester senior year, while most slack, I had a 98 average despite the fact that I was taking 3 college classes*
- I applied to bing for fall 2012, I got deferred then denied
- SAT scores: 590 math, 590 verbal*
- I have a very well- crafted personal statement*
- I have ADHD and another disability*

Now, in college:

I'm taking a heavy course load. At cortland, classes are only 3 credits, as opposed to bing where they are 4 each. This semester I'm taking 16 credits, just two below the maximum

I'm taking 5 classes, plus a lab*

the rigor of my courses are very challenging, these are the courses I'm taking:
•100 level biology
• biology lab*
• 100 level writing studies
• 200 level adolescent psych
• 300 level personality psych
• 300 level developmental psych
*
Other things i'm doing this semester-
-I belong to three clubs:*
speak (a literary magazine), psych club, and bio club

I work ten hours a week
-I'm a psych major

I tutor for intro to psych

Other info:
I interned for a professor in the psych dept at Syracuse university this summer and did a lot of hands- on tasks

So, assuming that I get a 4.0 this semester and have an excellent recommendation letter from one of my professors, what do you think the chances are of me getting in? Please be honest

You have ADHD and attended a normal school? Damn that’s crazy, I volunteer at a kindergarten with lots of kids that have ADHD and they can’t listen for more than 5 seconds. Do you actually have it checked by a specialist? If you did and Bing didn’t accept you after graduation then that’s pretty strange, I’m sure they would’ve been very keen on having you.
Anyways, work your hardest this semester and hope for the best! I think you have a good chance

Thank you for your encouragement.
Just so you know, ADHD means much more than just hyperactivity. There are two subtypes- predominantly inattentive, and predominantly hyperactive. My subtype is inattentive, so I struggled more with academics and attention issues from easy distractability than with behavioral issues.

Your SATs are rather low, but I don’t know how that will affect your chances as a transfer. I have a feeling that Bing will want to see more of your college grades before accepting you as a transfer. Be prepared to spend time at Cortland, you may grow to like it.

Also, five classes is a normal load at Cortland. Binghamton takes 16 credits (four classes at four credits a piece). There’s not much that’s remarkable about that schedule, except for the fact that your taking 300 level courses (which seems strange, did you place out of the intro?) Work hard and apply as a transfer for Fall '13- I think you’ll have higher chances.

Someone with attention challenges shouldn’t start out with five classes per semester! You need to get your focus set with a course load of 12 or 13 credits, and then if you feel you need more work, then you can increase to 14 or 15 credits the next semester.

Frequentfreshman,
Did you end up being admitted into Binghamton for the Spring?
