SUNY Binghamton vs Virginia Tech

Hey guys,

What is your opinion on the better school here; Virginia Tech or BU? I got accepted to Virginia Tech for Biological Sciences and was waitlisted to Binghamton University for Biological Sciences. I will most likely accept Virginia Tech; pay the deposit, but wait for my response to Binghamton as well.

I am graduating from a NYS high school, but have family in Northern Virginia. I will be paying in-state tuition to either school so it's not about the fees.

Thoughts?

need advice; bump…

I would suggest VA Tech for the different cultural experience. A large percentage of the students at Binghamton are from the NYC area, so it will be like high school. VT will have a more geographicaly diverse student body.

But both are good schools academically.

Thank you for your response. I live close to BU as well; Virginia Tech is about 8 and a half hours away but I do recognize that both are great schools academically and are also great values (#6 and #8 in the nation respectively). Will accept VT but still want to get other people’s feedback on whether I should accept BU if they accept me after the waitlisting.

Have you visited the schools? They’re rather different…

I’d go with YOUR best fit.

Have yet to visit V-Tech but the place looks great. I live by Binghamton and visited the school campus; it’s nice but the city is not that great (neither are the suburbs). However, both still maintain good student life within the campus and seem like good choices.

VT is great IMO - very pretty - nice college town - lots of school spirit. You should try to visit before making your decision if you can. Then you’d know if you really liked it or not.

Academically I don’t know that there’s much of a difference, but for fit, there’s quite a bit of a difference.

Va Tech is in Blacksburg…very small but beautiful location. Everyone I know who has gone to VT loved it… and then there’s football!
