SUNY chances with low gpa

I'm a senior and have a 77 average I am ending this marking period with a 86-89
I plan on applying for EOP admission I am also black

@drose200‌ how is ur SAT

bad 470 on reading the 300 on the math but I have been studying all summer to retake it my eop chances seem decent for old westbury, buffalo state

???

@drose200 Get your SAT score up to around 1500 at the minimum(im sure you are capable), around 1600 would be good. If you can raise it up into the 1800’s then go for the harder SUNY’s (Binghamton and Stony Brook and Genesseo)

Being black will help(obviously).

For your SAT, i would advise ripping out as many points in the writing and math section (the essay is easy points, the identifying sentence errors takes just a few rules to get familiar with, and the math section pretty much always has the same questions(same concepts each test means you can easily advance that math score to a 600))

I dont know what you scored on the SAT essay but make sure you familiarize yourself with how the SAT wants it to be written(straightforward) – the difference in a score from a 6 essay to a 12 essay is well over 100 points.

Critical reading is the hardest to improve really… just practice reading and pacing through questions with practice tests.

gooooood luck!

If you get you sat score up you’d have a good chance at some of the less selective suny schools! goodluck!!

Old Westbury would be a match and Buffalo State would be a safety if you can bring your scores to 450-500 in each section. Add SUNY Cortland, Oswego… as EOP if you reach 900.
If you have decent course rigor, could bring your GPA to 80, and get 1000 CR+M (or more), you could even be eligible for EOP Geneseo (the state’s honors college)!!!
Safeties: Plattsburgh, Delhi, Farmingdale State, Brockport, and Morrisville, as well as CSI if you can commute (or can afford to dorm in the new residence halls - I mean CUNY CSI).
Apply to 4 of those to compare offers, especially in terms of costs - you are entitled to 4 free EOP applications, use them. I’d pick one “reach” (like Geneseo if you have 80GPA+1000SAT), two “matches” (like Old Westbury, CSI, Oswego, Brockport), and one safety (Plattsburgh?) If you don’t get the 80GPA/1000SAT for Geneseo, add one more in the “safety” category.

HEOP would cover FULL TUITION at a private college in New York State. That’s in addition to EOP.
You can try applying to the following schools HEOP: if SAT 950-1000+ - Hobart&William Smith, Fordham Rose Hill, Marist, Siena; if SAT 850-900: Molloy, Nazareth, Canisius, Hofstra, LeMoyne, Manhattan, Niagara.
You can apply to as many HEOP programs as you wish. I would recommend you apply to 4 from the proper “SAT bracket”.

When are you retaking your SAT? Practice using number2.com. For math, the Khan Academy videos will really help you (check out prealgebra and algebra in priority).
