Does anyone have any experience with the vocal teachers up at SUNY Fredonia?

I want to see if I can get a private lesson in on Monday (we'll be in Fredonia this Sat. for my audition, and then we're staying with friends until Tuesday).

Thanks (:

The only advice I have for you is to make sure to ask whomever you are able to see what their plans for the immediate future might be. I know of one student there now, a junior, who has had 3 teachers due to the first two leaving with no warning. While it is known that faculty will move around if a better position presents itself, that sort of turnover can be very disruptive to a student who develops a close bond with a teacher-which is very common among voice students- not to mention the fact that each person has their own methods. Also, be sure to inquire as to plans she/he may have for a sabbatical during your years there, as even the disruption of a semester can cause setbacks.
Bring your heavy coat- it’s back into the 20s and low 30s for this region as of tomorrow! Good luck!

Good luck, Riku! And practice your sightsinging!

riku, these are the last updates to the '08 & '09 Master Acceptance threads.

If you scan them, there’s one vocal acceptance at Fredonia in each. You can try contacting those posters for any insights they may recall, but the faculty can change. Your timing is very tight, and you may be hard pressed to schedule with anyone, but it is worth trying.

There’s a similar question to yours here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/889777-sample-lessons-help-make-final-decision.html, with some additional thoughts. The last paragraph in my post there offers some thoughts in trying to make contact with posters.

Good luck.

Good luck Riku !!!

Well… I was accepted on the spot!

I walked out of that audition room grinning from ear to ear. :D

Congrats riku!!! Also, congrats on NYU! You’ve got some amazing options :)

Thought that might be the case! Congratulations! Fredonia is known for doing that at the late-in-the-season auditions, and often, their very best singers have come from that day. Great job!

Congratulations. It was worth it.

Immediate gratification at an audition is a wonderful thing. Congratulations on the acceptance.

Excellent news. We were up at Fredonia last week and it’s a really nice campus. The music school is very nice as well.

Perfect! Fredonia is a great music school. Wonderful news!

(And far less costly than NYU) ;)
