Hah, yes that's Steve Rees for you, you get used to him after a while =) He's always like that. In my class, there are about 12 BFA musical theatre majors and 3 BFA acting majors. The program really is a good one; my acting teacher, Ted Sharon, is quite the amazing person. It may not be one of the most well known programs around, but it's a great one nonetheless.
As for seniors getting work, I have a few friends in the senior class that already have jobs booked for after graduation. One for a cruise line, and more for performing jobs in various places across the nation.
Let me know if you have any more questions! =)

Hi Jennifer-

Thanks for offering to answer questions. My d wants to be a stage manager. she especially wants to stage manage musicals, so we are looking for a good MT school that also has a good theatre department with an emphasis in stage managing. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack!

We live in Atlanta, and frankly, haven't found anything so far in Georgia. (Too bad because with the Hope Scholarship here, tuition would be free!)

Do you think Fredonia might be a good fit for her? She's a junior, so we have plenty of time, but I want to narrow down as much via computer, so we don't spend tons on visits.

Thanks!
Pattikaye

My D. has been accepted to the Vocal Performance major at Fredonia. My question concerns the overlap between classical voice and MT. Do VP majors participate/ audition for shows and things or is there a strict dividing line between the two, as there is at some schools. Didn't think to ask this while we were there. Thanks.

Musmom2- from what I have heard (from a student in the VP program at Fredonia) the 2 groups take some classes together (such as diction) but VP majors can not audition for the musicals and grad students are preferred for the main roles in the opera but the undergrad females have a hard time even getting cast in the group scenes for the operas(more girls than available openings, even as the opera chorus). The VP majors are required to tech the operas.

Pattikaye- take a look at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. They have an up and coming Tech. Major and are really trying to build the program. As of this year, they are granting quite a bit of scholarship money with an eye to growing the major and out-of-state students usually fare quite well on that end. There are direct flights from Rochester to Atlanta too (but Roch is usually a lot more than using the Buffalo airport, so check both)

Lulu's mom: Thanks for the insights. D ultimately decided against Fredonia. Actually, it was more like deciding in favor of another school instead of against fredonia! Tough choice!

My D2 and I visited Fredonia this weekend. I am a small liberal arts college guy. D1 goes to one. So, as small as Fredonia is compared to most other public schools, it still felt a bit large for me. That said, D2 and liked what we saw. The admissions dept did a good job up front. The campus tour wasn’t the best, but basically the guy is a student working for another dept for the summer and he fills in when they need more guides.

We spent a long time in conversation with a member of the dance faculty. D2 is a dancer and a soccer player. Unsure she could do both from what the prof said. The prof and my daughter hit it off well. They have had a dance major for 3 years and it sounds like they have done well. Their drawback right now is limited dance facilities, but what they have is very good and there are plans for new construction. Met another member of the dance faculty. Very good interaction. I really liked it. D2 loved the conversation. It was her first college visit.

Any idea when they will post audition dates for this Fall?

I think it will be in Feb
