Hi, I just attended SUNY New Paltz’s accepted students day and I have some questions regarding their education program, specifically their elementary education program. Waa the school helpful with finding you student teaching opportunities close to home? Was the program’s academic advisors helpful during the certification process? Were you guided along the process well of becoming a teacher well?
I also applied, but as a transfer but I live very close to new paltz.
New paltz is one of the better regarded SUNY schools especially in education. I’m not sure where home is but I’m from newburgh and SUNY new paltz students do get placed there for student teaching- and that’s where most of your connections will come from. If you live somewhere like manhattan chances are no, they won’t let you student teach there because you have clinical advisers that have to supervise and they will not drive an hour and a half to go to you when they have x amount of schools to visit.
Everyone that I know that goes there absolutely loves it and has been very well prepared
