Thank you Lily. How is the workload? My D is smart and talented but doesn’t like to kill herself, if you know what I mean. Are the students friendly?

The foundation courses can be challenging, depending on how much experience your D has with other mediums. My son did not have much experience with drawing and painting, so he found it somewhat challenging but certainly doable. Like I said, the other students helped him out and some of his projects were group projects and they all pitched in together. The professors encourage helping each other too and ask for ideas to be shared about each others projects. Yes, the students are very friendly and down to earth.

Got my acceptance today! :)

Congrats evnstvn!

Does anyone know about the internships that New Paltz or Purchase has for photography and design majors? Since Purchase is near NYC, I wonder whether it has better internship opportunities. However, NP sounds like the better academic school.

One of the photography majors that my son knows at New Paltz got an internship through the school at a major magazine in NYC. I think she is a junior and goes into NYC a few days and to class the other days.

Thank you for the information. You have been very helpful to us and we appreciate it!

Your welcome…feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. Good luck to your D.

D received her acceptance package from New Paltz today…Congratulations to everyone!

Congrats to your D CollegeBoundNYC!

Thanks LilyMoon!..It’s nice to have a good solid choice so early in the process. :-)

Where do you see the link for accepted students if I may ask?

msclthtrmom - here is the link where you can check

https://my2.newpaltz.edu/ugrad_app/login.cfm

Mail never came today (whatever happened to the postman’s credo??). ACT was 30, weighted GPA is 95.6, has great community service (was locally honored for a program he started) and solid activities, plus he’s a male, is a varsity sports captain and works part-time, so he should be in, but now we’re worried that maybe his application was incomplete. Guess he’ll have to wait another day and if it doesn’t come, he’ll call admissions to check. This really stinks.

My S received his acceptance from New Paltz today! He now has to decide between UVM and New Paltz. He is a snowboarder, so Vermont is enticing, but I think the smaller school might be a better choice. He is interested in History or English. Any thoughts to help him decide?

KarenK, go onto the New Paltz website at the link in the above thread and see if your child has a link for accepted students. If so, then you’re in. If not maybe wait listed. My son had a much lower GPA but the same ACT and was accepted.

benmom - Have you looked at the course offerings at both schools in History and English? I took a quick look at New Paltz spring 2010 courses for both subjects and there are a large amount to choose from. Don’t know what areas specifically your S is interested in. You should check out UVM too and compare. Good luck with your decision.

He’s in!
LilyMoon-- can you tell us anything about the honors program? Do you think it’s possible to do a sport and be in the honors program?

Congrats KarrenK! I am not very familiar with the honors program but one of the posters on the forum has a daughter in honors at NP. I will send her a message asking if she can help you with your questions about honors.

Thanks, LilyMoom. There are great course offerings at both schools. I am more concerned about the size of the classes. I think my son would do better with smaller classes rather than large lecture type courses. I was wondering about the number of large classes there are for freshmen. The “average” class size doesn’t help much because the calculation includes upper class seminara.
