thank you for the link. We never furnished dd’s SS# so there is not a way to look up her ID number IF she made it in. I called New Paltz and they told me that she will know by Jan 1 so here we sit and wait! Congrats to your child!

KarenK, my D is a JR. at NP in the honors program. I would say it is definitely doable to both sport and honors program. The honors program offers specific seminar style classes which are only avail. to honors students. You must take 3 I think in the 4 years, above and beyond your required curriculum. In addition you complete an honors thesis in SR. year and present. Perks of the honors program: great one on one advising with Jeff Milller, great place to hang out and study, etc., first to be scheduled so you never get bumped from a class. Hope that helps. As far as class size, D has never had a class with over 25-30, although some of the Fresh. gen ed can be as big as 50-60. We love NP. It has been a fantastic school for her. She is double major in Studio art and Eng. Outstanding teachers in both areas.

Vahevala, how does admission to the New Paltz honors program work? Is it by invitation, or do students take the initiative to apply?

Zoosermom,Students do need to apply for the honors program. They have the requirements posted on the honors center site.

i was accepted early action to SUNY new paltz! its one of my top schools so i think there’s a very good chance i’ll be going here :). i’m an out-of-state student, if that means anything.

also, for anyone who attends the school, i was wondering how the acapella groups on campus are!

Congratulations to all that have heard. My son applied EA to Oneonta and just got his letter of deferment yesterday. It was disappointing but not surprising. He also applied regular decision to Oswego and Potsdam. He has already been accepted to Plymouth State University in NH, Cazenovia College, & the University of Tampa. Also waiting on Keene State College and Emmanuel in Boston. Oneonta was my first choice for him. He’s already got some nice choices and whatever is meant to be is meant to be.

Stats: GPA 86, ACT 28, SAT 1800/2400. Resume weak in athletics & school activities but heavy in community work, music, & part time employment.

Good luck to all! You will end up loving whatever college you go to! I didn’t go to what I thought was my first choice and ended up having the best 4 years of my life!

Sorry to hear about the deferment letter from Oneonta…I am expecting the same to come in the mail any day now. We knew it was a long shot when we applied, but we wanted to get a feeling from SUNY schools thats why we applied EA - waiting to hear on SUNY Cortland, Plattsburgh, Keene State.
Got accepted to High Point in NC and Mount St Mary College.
Good Luck to ALL

My DS (step-son) got his letter today. He’s accepted plus awarded Presidential Scholarship.

SAT M+V 1400.
Unweighted average about 94%

Good luck to the rest still waiting!

D got her rejection from Oneonta yesterday…we are still waiting on SUNY Cortland and Plattsburgh…already got acceptance to Keene State, Mt St Mary and High Point…really need to get accepted to one of the SUNYs as money is tight.

good luck Nastynick!

nastynick…was the letter from Oneonta an outright rejection letter? My son’s was a deferment…they can’t make a decision right now for early action, but they will put him in with the rolling admissions pool and they want to see his mid year grades. I’m still hopeful because that’s his first choice.

We feel like we’ve been waiting for Keene State forever…got his WebAdvisor letter back in October! His status just changed from pending to complete on Tuesday.

Also waiting for Oswego & Potsdam. Good luck to you Nastynick! Keep us updated.

Yeah Oneonta was an outright rejection - kinda knew b4 we applied. Thanks for the well wishes. Good Luck to all.

mamabear1209 - Regarding Keene - Once the WebAdvisor changed to complete, my S received his acceptance within 2 weeks. My S is still waiting to hear from Oneonta and Cortland.

my son got accepted to SUNY Potsdam today…I know this is off topic from this thread, but just wanted to share. We’re so excited!

congrats to all accepted. Next year my D will be applying to Oneonta, NP and Potsdam!

It appears Oneonta is being really selective this year. My son was rejected but he got into New Paltz! Go figure…and his mother graduated from Oneonta! Alot of other people I know were rejected from Oneonta but accepted at other Sunys like Albany and New Paltz. Oneonta is not exactly a top school like Binghamton or Stony Brook. They must be trying to upgrade or just had a ton of apps so they can be more selective. Then again, no one ever said admissions people were the brightest!

LOL…that is strange. New Paltz is considered a more selective and highly regarded school. Congrats to your son!

Oneonta happens to be getting more and more diffucult. In fact, Oneonta accepts the lowest percentage of applicants than any other SUNY, except for Geneseo (just look at collegeboard.com) Oneonta only accepted 39% of their applicants. Also the Sat scores recquirements in Oneonta are 520-590 for reading and 540-620 for math. In New Paltz the Sats recquirements are 520-600 for reading and 520-600 for math. Albany is even less selective with 490-580 in Reading and 520-620 in math.
My daughter is currently a freshman and LOVES it, and most of her friends also love it. She knows people who attend New Paltz, and they do not even like it, they are considering transferring.

I really haven’t heard of anyone not liking New Paltz. My son is a student who transferred to New Paltz and most everyone he knows loves it. This is the first I’m hearing of anyone not happy there.

I think some of her friends are not happy there because the male/female ratio is 34/66 and they also feel the school is very artsy. I’m sure many of the students do love it, I guess its the same at every school you are always going to find people who either love it or hate it.
