I'm currently only a junior but am starting to look seriously into colleges. My freshmen year I took Honors English, and my overall average was about a 93-95. Sophomore year... took Honors English and overall was also about a 92-95. Junior year.. I'm taking AP English, Child Psychology (College level course), and IB History Of The Americas. I'm also involved in a lot of clubs. Does anyone know how hard it is to get into SUNY Old Westbury Honors college? Or does anyone have any other schools I should look into that I could probably get into? I want to major in Special Education.

dont go there… Nassau community college is better than SUNY-OW. seriously, suny old westbury is crap, if you want to be a physical education major and are from NY, go to Cortland, they are known for that and that school is closer to your ability level. dont sell yourself short.

The only reason why I’m interested in the school is because I’d commute and it’s so cheap. Do you think even their Honors college is a joke?

I am not familiar with the Honors College, but I think its better to apply to other SUNY schools, especially if you have a 92-95 average.

Best of luck!

Definitely look into SUNY Cortland. It’s the SUNY known for their Phys. Ed. program.

Thank you! Do you guys know of any SUNY schools that are known for having a killer Special Ed. department? Or any schools for that matter?

To answer your question in two words, “Not very.”

25% of the students accepted at Old Westbury last year had B- averages (and possibly lower, although the OW admissions page says you need an 80 average). Nearly a third of the Old Westbury admits had an SAT score below 1020. Although you haven’t taken your SATs or ACTs yet, I would be shocked if you were not to be admitted.

I’m not sure about Cortland for you. You said your interest was special ed, right? Not physical education.

Yeah, special ed. I talked to somebody at Old Westbury’s honors college and they told me that everyone in the honors college is basically smart. It’s just outside the honors college that would be wayyy too much of a joke.
