I just visted Oneonta and I think I got a good feel for the campus. I am most likely sending in my deposit next week, But before I do I just wanted know if anyone can give me insight on the social scene there. Thanks in advance.

I am visiting with my son this week...you say you liked the campus, what is your intended major? He is undecided.

Forgot to mention, did you go on the accepted students overnight or the campus visit? We are doing the campus visit.

The campus was absolutly gorgeous. I went for the Information Session. The tour guide actually answered all the questions I had. I declared a dual major, Seconday Education and History. The only reason why I ask about the social scene is because when my father attended, the school was stonyeonta, but the tour guide told me the campus is "dry" and zero-tolerence. I was just seeing if that is the case.

My kids know kids who go there. Here's the answer they gave me:
PARTY SCHOOL. Their friends like it there but they all admit that it is a big party school. I'm sure those who are there for an education get out of it what they put into it.

The tour guide really wasn't being honest at all....Oneonta is a HUGE party school..i have a friend who goes there now and told me there are 34 bars within walking distance of campus...

Yes. Everyone always talks about the number of bars. I also hear a lot about drugs too. The tour guide told us that the only thing off campus to do is Wal Mart... But all of this should be easily avoidable if you aren't into it.

Above posters are correct..... anyone looking for a party at any school can always find one. If that's not what you're into, you'll certainly find other things to occupy your time. My daughter is a sophomore at Oneonta and isn't big into partying. She has plenty of friends who are like minded and she's never complained once about not having anything to do. She is a member of a sports team which takes alot of her time during the season, but never complains of being bored in the off season. Your college experience will be what you make of it.
