SUNY Oswego vs SUNY Brockport

I’m an international student from Nepal who has applied and been admitted to both SUNY Oswego and SUNY Brockport with about equal Scholarship amounts. I’m majoring in Computer Science and would like to know suggestions on which of these colleges to go to. Ease of access to off-campus housing from second year is a priority to reduce costs for me. I’m looking forward to good research facilities and good job opportunities with satisfactory starting salary after graduating. A mild party scene with mild sports activities will do. It’s really urgent that I decide so I can sign the acceptance letters and enroll by tomorrow. Please help! Thanks in advance.

I would go with SUNY OSwego. It’s a better school and off campus housing wouldn’t be a problem I think.
However, after graduating you’d only be allowed 27 months of OPT (job that “trains” you for a real job but that is paid at entry-level) before you should either return to Nepal or be admitted to a Master’s degree. It’s very hard these days to get a H1B.
You may want to ask your questions on the SUNY-specific forums and join the Facebook pages for each university to ask questions about off campus housing.

An argument for SUNY Brockport is that it is closer to a mid-sized city, Rochester. (And there is a small Brockport satellite campus in downtown Rochester.) Even so, the main campus is about a 30 minute drive to the west of the city. There is off campus housing conveniently located in Brockport. Buffalo/Niagara Falls/Canada are an hour further west. The times that I have been on campus, the students seem very happy there.

@MYOS1634 hey! Thanks for that info. I was looking forward to someone helping me with that as well.
Does Oswego have better programs than Brockport? Or maybe better faculty? I’ve heard from several people that Oswego is a slightly better option, but I’ve never heard why. If you have knowledge on the matter, could you please help?

@MidwestDad3 the fact that Brockport is closer to Rochester does give Brockport an edge on convenience on a daily basis. But Oswego is closer to downtown NY, which might prove helpful during summer. So, the balance still hangs symmetrically I guess. Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m not very familiar and respond based only on what I’ve seen online. Information with hands on experience is really helpful and reliable

Oswego is about 1h to Syracuse and 5-6h to NYC. Brockport is about 7h to NYC. It’s a toss up.

OP, which did you choose?
