Can someone explain this a little more to me? Is the conservatory still a 4 yr program? Will I be considered a 'real' student if I go? Haha, I'm really slow when it comes to things like this, so sorry if I sound really stupid.

Purchase’s BFA in acting is yes, a four year program. If you get in, you are considered a real drama/acting student. One question I would ask is how many students enroll in the program (are accepted, accept the program and start as freshmen) and how many emerge with their BFAs four years later. All programs have attrition of some kind, but it’s a good question to ask nonetheless of any program you are interested in. If the attrition level seems high, ask why.

I was also wondering that, how many student are accepted. And what are the academic requirements if I wish to be accepted into the acting conservatory?

We went to their open house on Nov 11. They have about 600-800 auditions, about 30-35 accepted for class of 20. Program is a very rigorous actor training program. I suggest, if you can, that you attend an open house of any BFA program you can. Don’t know if SUNY Purchase is having any more.

We don’t listen to the odds. Odds were made to be beaten. :<)

Also, if you get on the waiting list at Purchase, you do have a good chance of actually enrolling. I know several very talented kids who were waitlisted and ended up at the school.

dutcchy, follow this link to another thread all about purchase. the BFA program is a four year, conservatory style program. And you take MANY more classes than the regular students here, so you are definitely a “real” student:). Follow the link and feel free to ask me or ActingPurchase any questions about the program, we’re both acting majors. Good luck!
