My daughter just got accepted in the SUNY Purchase Voice program. Any one know anything about this program? When she graduates...what are some of the options she might have in order to make a living...just in case she doesn't make it as an opera singer? will she be able to double major in music education?
Please any information about the program will be greatly appreciated...

Symbols,

Welcome to CC. I am going to add your daughter’s acceptance over on our http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a-62.html
If she has any more music acceptances, please let us know about them.

If you check the most recent summary report by school at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12390045-post914.html you will see that there are five others listing acceptances there. You might try sending a Private Message to some of them.

You could also check out lists from prior years to find students who are currently enrolled there. For example, from the 2010 list at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/817953-master-list-acceptances-fall-2010-a-73.html?highlight=List+Music+School+Acceptances%2C+Fall+2010 we have Ryanjhan and Sopranorose attending SUNY Purchase.

Concerning Music Education as a backup plan, that is generally discouraged by the schools who interview applicants with the specific intent of turning down those for whom teaching is not a real interest. There are already a lot of music teachers out there who are frustrated performers that have become bitter about the whole situation. They usually do not make very good teachers. If your daughter is specifically interested in a Music Education degree, I do not see any reference to one being available on the SUNY Purchase Music Department website. Fredonia and Potsdam are the usual places in the SUNY system for those looking to study Music Education.

It is possible to obtain a Master’s degree in Music Education after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Performance. That usually involves a year of study plus the summers before and after, and may require that you have taken certain core courses as an undergrad. One example of such a program is [Overview - Oberlin College](http://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/departments/music-education/)

Note that many school systems require their music teachers to either have a Master’s degree or to be working toward one.

SUNY Purchase does not have a music education degree. PM me if you have any questions about the music conservatory, the opera program in particular.
