Can anyone tell me about SUNY Puchase? I am interested in attending, I am a senior now. I heard the campus has nothing around it. How is it for a teaching degree in music?
Any help you can give me. What about secuity?

SUNY Purchase doesn't have a music education degree. If you're looking to teach music and want a SUNY school, try looking at either SUNY Potsdam/Crane School of Music or SUNY Fredonia. :)

Purchase has a lot around it. On the road leading to the campus are huge mansions and a couple of bars spread out in between. The city of White Plains is only ten minutes away. White Plains is a very nice area with a couple of malls and a theater and a bunch of restaurant. And you can have a car as a freshman on campus, so you can go wherever you want.

Purchase has no education major or teaching certification, which sucks, but it does have a great music program and a huge music conservatory.

White Plains may be only 10 min from the Purchase campus, but the area has no public transportation (and there are few sidewalks), so students w/o cars can feel “stranded.”

Potsdam is renowned for their Crane School of Music. Purchase is also highly regarded for their music conservatory. The facilities are impressive. However, Potsdam, I think is an even more isolated campus. I have never visited there. Purchase if definitely lacking in that there is no ‘college town’ so to speak. But I have been told that a shuttle runs students back-and-forth to the train station until 2am on weekends for the 30-minute ride into Manhattan. So, if you don’t have a car, you’re not totally stranded.
