I really really want to get into Stony Brook, and it is my dream school, however I feel like I messed up big time. My junior year grades are wrecked now, and I have absolutely no EC's except for my work experience, volunteering, and knowledge in piano and martial arts. No clubs or sports teams.
Current status: female, HS junior
Current GPA: 86 weighted (overall)
Haven't taken any SAT IIs yet, havent taken SAT or AP Exams yet.
No recs as of yet.
Taken: 5 honors, 1 A.P. (Environmental Sci) class so far
In my freshmen and sophmore years, I had 90 and 92 average. Now, in my junior year, I have for the first semester, a grade average of 78, and I also failed (55) the second term of math b, and I'm now retaking that class. Horrible! I've been goofing around and now I don't know what to do cause I don't want to get bad recs.

If I do well in my senior year (94+), what are the chances of me getting into SUNY Stony Brook? I know it's annoying to answer these questions but please, PLEASE help!

Also for:
SUNY Buffalo
SUNY Oswego
SUNY Albany
SUNY Geneseo

its tough, not gonna lie. The fact that you failed math B is big...in the day and age where it is almost expected of you to take AP Calc by your senior year, math B in junior year definitely will hurt. Also, senior year counts only to certain degree...junior year counts the most.

but consider this: you can still make up the grades. you can change 78 to 90 if you tried really hard (of course that would require getting almost 100's in both remaining terms and the finals). And the SAT score will count ALOT.

As for EC's, try to do something with the piano and martial arts. Get an award somewhere. Its a little too late to join new clubs, so work with what you have. Also, apply early action. That helps quite a bit.

I know it feels to have a glaringly bad grades staring at you. But my guess is that you truly had an epiphany when you saw those grades. Otherwise you wouldn't be here asking for advice. So in your application, make sure that the admissions office know that you are not the same person who got those grades. The past is past, so make them see that you will continue to get good grades in college as you need in freshmen and sophomore years. I know SUNY doesn't require essays but write one anyways. And most importantly, don't worry too much. It doesn't help at all, and it would be much easier to bring those grades up if you are not stressing over this.
