SUNY Stony Brook vs SUNY Binghamton for computer science and/or physics

I’m trying to decide whether to go to Bing or Stony (please excuse abbreviations), but all my research so far hasn’t really shed any light. Could you please list the pros and con’s of both schools and which is better for physics and computer science? Thank you.

If reputation (for which rankings are a proxy) in those subjects matters to you, note that Stony Brook has significantly higher rankings in both physics and CS.

You can check course catalogs and schedules at each school to see what offerings there are in each subject.

Stony brook is primarily commuter/suitcase so if you don’t have family nearby it can be a bit lonely and it can be harder to make friends. It’s stem-focused so lots of facilities but also competition.
Bing is more isolated. There’s more campus life but it’s harder to get into the city. The overall level is quite good since it’s one of the state’s flagships.

Tough call. SB probably has bit better of a reputation for your particular areas of interest but Bing has the better overall reputation and more of a campus life (SB does have a bit of a suitcase school reputation as noted above). I’d revisit the two schools if you can and pick the one that is the best fit for you.

Binghamton is pretty competitive and is a good school. I live around there and there’s lots of things to do. I’m unsure about the programs at SB, but a bunch of people who graduated from my HS went to bing for physics and chem (for their strong sciences).
