So this isn't really important but the Saints victory just got me wondering: Do you think more students will enroll this year and more students will apply next year?
You know, taking into account the heightened interest in New Orleans lately.
Hmm, just pondering haha.

Actually I imagine all of us that have an interest in Tulane and New Orleans wondered about that. Did the coverage make it look too much like New Orleans was just a wreck still? After all they really didn’t show the Uptown areas except glancingly. Or will it attract even more smart, committed students that are completely into helping to rebuild? Hard to say I guess. I know President Cowen was there. I kept hoping that somehow, in the midst of all the interviews and stories, Tulane would come up, or even that he would be interviewed. I know that Tulane has been very involved in the school system revitalization, including Lusher which they did show. Would have been great to have gotten a mention or two.

Dh said after the game that ds would come home from his party and say, “That makes me want to attend Tulane even more!,” but he didn’t. I’ll ask about that today.

I know for myself and many other future Tulanians, who I am in contact with, it made us more excited about attending. For some, it seemed that the whole party atmosphere heightened their excitement, while others it showed how much more help is needed in rebuilding New Orleans. Although I would like to say that for me it was all about the the rebuilding and, while most of my excitement does, in fact, come from the rebuilding, I have to say that all the shots of Bourbon Street definitely looked like a lot of fun. :)

Just to add a little perspective to the Bourbon Street scene on Sunday night…I have a friend whose 22 year old daughter was on Bourbon Street all day Sunday and Sunday night. She watched the game and celebrated with the other Who Dats afterwards. She told her mother that it was the “best and most exciting night of her life”. This is a girl who was queen of a carnival ball (which in New Orleans is pretty big and exciting stuff), but she said that it was even better than that. Also said that she wasn’t sure that even her wedding would be able to top it! Now, that speaks volumes as to what this win means to life-long New Orleanians. Who Dat!!!

Tulane has moved ahead of USC, UCLA, and UCB on the depth chart in part because of its location and the Super Bowl, but also as a result of more in depth investigation of what each has to offer.

Wow idad, that is awesome. That’s pretty good competition.

cmb - that is such a great story. There is so much emotion tied up with this win, it is beyond words. I am sure a lot of us saw the ESPN story about Drew Brees and Micah Rochelle, who is battling cancer. It was inspiring and humbliing. Then I saw the interview they did with Drew at Disney World, and the interviewer asked him if there was anyone in particular in New Orleans that had touched him since coming there. It was obviously a set-up, but no matter. He brought up Micah’s name and what he was going through, and then said “This one was for you, buddy”. They both choked up for a second. The whole thing is so AWESOME on so many levels, it is clearly one of the few times that the impact of what has transpired completely transcends all sports related meaning. This one will feel great for a very long time.

Even my D, who couldn’t care less about football, said it was really something to hear all the noise and see all the people, even way uptown. She also pointed out that crime went down to almost nothing during all the Saint’s games. Wouldn’t it be great if we could harness that!

^^Any report from the parade today??

My daughter explained it like this - - - in NY/NJ some people care about The Giants, some people care about the Jets, and many people don’t follow it at all. In NOLA, football fan or not, everybody cares about The Saints. Everyone at least knows the names of Brees, Bush, Payton, etc. It was hard to find one person in the entire city not wearing black and gold the last few days.

My daughter watched the game at Lucy’s Bar and Grille (in the warehouse district), then watched in a big screen outside on a wall, then after the win a 20 minute walk to Bourbon…she said the entire city was going nuts.

On Monday, with little sleep, being a new employee (she is finishing up her senior year with only 1 class left, and working part -time at a company she will likely stay with) she shows up at her regular start time of 7:30 am to her office (probably 100 people work there). She does not have a key and can not get in because all 100 people were out late celebrating…people older than me! So she had to leave and go eat breakfast, and come back later.

Tulane classes are cancelled today for the parade.

I thought they cancelled classes just for the afternoon today? My s went downtown toe the French quarter after the game. Sounds like he had a great time. I am amazed (sadly, but understandibly) that Saturday’s NOLA mayoral election has gotten the short shrift. I really think the city has pulled together on all fronts. Even one of the losing candidates went over to hold hands and show solidarity with Landrieu, who won with 66% of the vote (and there were a lot of candidates running) [Move over Ray Nagin, New Orleans has new mayor](News, Politics, Sports, Mail & Latest Headlines - AOL.com) Great progress on all fronts!

Yeah, all campuses closed after 1:00. And there were 10 candidates, yet he still got 66%!! Amazing. Can’t wait to see clips of the parade.

The parade was broadcast live on CNN for over 2 hours. It was absolutely wonderful. I was so happy that I was able to see it as many of my friends were watching it there in New Orleans. Drew Brees was having the time of his life, as were the other players and Sean Payton. Drew will also reign over Bacchus on Sunday night, so he was just getting warmed up tonight. The election of Mitch Landrieu was indeed historical, he doesn’t mind being shorted on press for the moment. Personally, I can’t wait until Nagin is out of there. This is a truly exciting time for New Orleans. As many have discussed, it goes way beyond football.

They had the WWL feed and another local feed on ESPN News for hours also. It was …well, in an amazing turn of events I am at a loss for words.

I fly out at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Will report back on how wild the party was.
