Apologies if this has been asked previously in this forum…
Does Pitt superscore the ACT?
I was under the impression it did, however the verbiage on the web site changed and now I’m not so sure.

Are you asking for admission purposes or for merit aid purposes?
Good question.
For the sake of completeness, let’s say both admissions and merit aid.
Thanks!
We do not superscore the ACT. We will take your highest composite score.

Ah, so this is a new policy, correct?
In the past your policy was to look at the average of the highest English and Math subscores.
The merit scholarship web site recently had the following:
“eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
minimum SAT score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT (Math and English subscores average)
overall ‘A’ average
top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses
record of excellence in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom”
Now it has the following:
“eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
minimum SAT score of 1490 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT composite
overall ‘A’ average
top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses
record of excellence in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom”
Has your policy changed?

@hailtopitt1787 can you pls confirm Admissions has changed policy to look at composite score only? and no longer will superscore ACT? will they also no longer superscore SAT? That would be a new policy this year since in past yr/s only math and english subscores were considered and composite was not. Thanks for clarifying this!
The University of Pittsburgh has changed the process due to changes in the College Board concordance tables. For fall 2017, Pitt will review the ACT composite and/or SAT superscore. We will continue to look at the highest scores in reviewing applications.

Thank you for the clarification.
@hailtopitt1787 but does Pitt still only look at English and math. I have one set of tests that has a higher English/math subscore but my other set has a higher composite. I indicated on my app I was only sending the higher English and math score but should I call and say that I will be sending the higher composite instead even though the English and math scores are lower
@almostdonewithhs, For a more detailed conversation about your application and the review process, please feel free to call our office: 412-624-7488 or email oafa@pitt.edu. One of our admissions processors or admissions counselors would have more information to share with you and could access your applicant profile to assist you. They will be more than happy to help!

@hailtopitt1787 thanks for the clarification! I had thought their previous policy was really fair - so it’s too bad it’s been revised.
And the SAT does not have a science section.
@almostdonewithhs, I would send all your scores to be on the safe side.
@mommdc thanks for the advice, I am considering it even thought my scores are very similar. I’ll actually be there tomorrow with a family friend so I can ask an admissions counselor in person.
Hi @hailtopitt1787,
You mentioned that policy has changed regarding super-scoring the ACT for students applying during Fall 2017.
Will Pitt still super-score ACT scores for students applying in Fall 2016?, \
Thanks!
Also, many blogs have reported that Pitt super-scores ACT…
For example, http://www.testprepcoach.com/superscore-act.html
Can you confirm if Pitt super-scores the ACT or not?
Thanks!
@hotelie17, Sorry for any confusion - students applying for Fall 2017 refers to students applying now in order to start their freshman year in 2017.
So, to put it in another way - in this cycle, we will take your highest composite ACT score. For the most up to date information on the admissions process, please refer to our website - oafa.pitt.edu.
