In my high school, everybody seems to believe that if you buy apparel from a certain college before being accepted, you will have bad luck with admissions there. I think its a little crazy (recently I just bought a Brown hat), but I was wondering if this is a common superstition on CC. What other popular college-related superstitions have you guys heard of/believe in?

Wow, I’m the complete opposite. I buy college apparel and wear it for GOOD luck. I have lots of college t-shirts, shorts, and hoodies, and wear them all the time. My Penn State hoodie is my go-to hoodie, and I wear my Harvard hoodie whenever I have a big test like an AP exam or a final or the SAT. At my school, it’s all about wearing stuff from different colleges just because it’s from a college.

I’ve never heard of that superstition, but I don’t understand why you’d buy apparel from a school that still has the ability to reject you.

I’ve heard of that superstition. It’s just superstition. My best friend bought tons of UCLA stuff and she still got in despite having an SAT lower than 1900. She had a high GPA and everything else going for her though.

I don’t buy college apparel in order to have good luck (minus the Harvard hoodie), I just buy the stuff because it looks cool. Every time I go on a college tour, I buy something from the school. I’m not even going to apply to half of the schools I have apparel from, I just like wearing it.

Nah, we weren’t allowed to wear college apparel unless we had proof of acceptance to that particular school. So it was more of a badge of honor if anything than for good luck.

I didn’t even know there were any superstitions revolving around admissions lol.
