Supplement Application with classes from HES?

So, I live pretty close to Harvard and was thinking about taking a few classes at the ES either over the summer or online. I will be applying as a transfer student to Harvard College + its peer institutions next year… Would taking classes at Harvard help my case? I have a 3.8+ GPA at a top 20 university in the USA already and a competitive extracurricular resume.

No, but it won’t hurt you either. The reality, however, is that Harvard only accepts about 12 transfer applicants a year.

Nope. However, if you choose your classes wisely (small class size <20 students) and you get an A in the class, you could ask your professor (who will know you well because of the small class size) to write you a recommendation to the college. THAT would help much more so than just taking an HES class.

Harvard College does not accept or give any transfer credit for HES courses.

@snarlatron huh? Aren’t all summer courses offered through the HES? Don’t Harvard undergrads receive credit for the work they do there?

No. Harvard Summer School is part of the Division of Continuing Education, as is Harvard Extension School.

At Harvard Summer School, yes with some exceptions. At Harvard Extension School, no.

Bummer. Happen to know why?

Harvard does not accept transfer credit from from any extension school, so it is just extending that policy to preclude students in Harvard College from getting credit for HES classes,
