Supplement question?

Hi guys!
I'm applying to CAS ED for Economics and Math. As you all know, the supplement essay is this:

"Describe your intellectual interests, their evolution, and what makes them exciting to you. Tell us how you will utilize the academic programs in the College of Arts and Sciences to further explore your interests, intended major, or field of study."

Also, the directions also say this:

" On a separate sheet of paper, please respond to the essay question below (maximum of 500 words) that corresponds to the undergraduate college(s) or school(s) to which you are applying....."

I've written my rough draft, and I'm sitting at 551 words. It is bothering me that it says 500 words max, but I don't know if it is a massive deal or not.

My question is this, is it a big deal that I have 550 ish words in my essay? I really do not want to cut out anything major, but at the same time, I don't want to be shut out of Cornell because of 50 or so words.

Any feedback would be amazing, thank you guys so much!!

cornell seemed really chill when i met/called them so i wouldnt worry about it. i doubt they have ever DQ ed anyone b/c essay elngth

You really should read through the essay and cut the extra 51 words. Work in contractions or whatnot where you can, but it isn’t worth the risk of rejection when an hour editing session could take care of it for sure. The limits exists because the admissions officers have to read thousands of these essays, they won’t take a liking to somebody who broke a common courtesy rule.

I wouldn’t risk it. Cut down the 51 words
