Supplemental Essay: Am I over-thinking it?

Hey fellow Williams applicants,

My last college is Williams and I've been struggling with the prompt. I keep writing about different "environments" but I seem to always lose focus on the "looking through a wondow" portion of the prompt. Do you guys think Williams is looking for a more literal interpretation of the window, or are they just asking for a perspective. Any advice is appreciated.

I just got accepted ED. I could email you my supplement piece if you would like to see it and think it would be of use. I do, however, really think it’s up to interpretation. :)

That would be really awesome! Thank you so much for the offer, I’ll PM you my email address. Also, congratulations on ED, you’re super lucky!

I think you should simply interpret it in a way that is natural to you, be it literal or more metaphorical. The prompt was the same when I applied–my window was artifacts, documents, and books, and my environment was the past. (I like history.) But some of my friends wrote that the window was their car window as they drove away from some meaningful place, the window of their house looking into their yard, an airplane window, etc. Basically, you can’t go wrong if you pick something that makes sense to you personally.

Hi i don’t mean to barge in here, but is anyone interested in reading what i have for the supplement and critiquing it? It would be very appreciated!!

If you want to you can pm me. I’ll be happy to read it.

Yeah shoot me a pm and maybe we could give each other feedback.

My essay was about how I don’t want to look at the world through a window! As long aas you answer the prompt somehow, it’s fine! :)

It is a way for them to get a sense of you and your mind…you can use the prompt in whatever way you need so long as you don’t distort it completely out of shape like a piece of Silly Puddy and the comics. BE INTERESTING–not bizarre, of course, but make the reader go “ah, this shows me something about this applicant’s mind I wouldn’t have otherwise known.”

Of course, it goes without saying make bloody sure the mechanics are perfect too!
