Supplemental essay: too similar to Common App essay?

Hi everyone,

I realized just the other day that my supplemental essay might be too similar to my Common App essay (which I submitted weeks ago). I wrote my Common App essay for option #1 and I wrote about my experience when I spent my summer with people living in poverty, and how it ultimately made me realize that I wanted to become a doctor and a medical volunteer to help such people. My supplemental essay is about a shocking anecdote I received from a victim of sexual abuse (anonymously; it was submitted to student council's secret message box for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse) and how the victim's courage to step forth and deliver her message wanted to make me have the courage myself to stand up for victims like her, in return.

So... I guess my question is, are they too similar? Or is the supplemental essay too "impersonal"?

Thanks!

(Many thanks to entomom for directing me here... Heh.)

Have you already submitted the supplement?

Nope, I have not. I might super-procrastinate and write another essay tomorrow morning, though.

Try writing another essay that tells the Admissions Committee something personal about yourself. It doesn’t have to be super-serious. For example: my son, who is a freshman at Yale, wrote his supplementary essay about all the useless, but practical lessons he has learned from watching YouTube video’s.

Awesome! Thank you for the advice! :D
