Supplemental housing chances

Hi!
I jost got accepted to Penn State and of course I accepted the admission to University Park. I am really excited about that, but there is one thing I am really worrying..
I am from germany, so I will arrive at Penn State a few days before the semester starts for the orientation. I am a transfer student, so not a first-year student.
It is really important for me to get on-campus housing, because I am really not used to the american contract-system and I have no idea how I should get an appartment/room for spring 2014 by my own.
Today I put my name on to the waitlist for supplemental housing. The assignment office for housing told me that normally all new student are able to get a contract, also for normal on-campus-housing.
I really don't care if I will get normal or supplemental housing. I did not found any recently posts about the housing situation for upperclasmen, from 2010 to 2011 I have only read that some student have not got a contract, but I am not sure if this was because the refused to accept a supplemental housing contract.
Can anyone tell me how likely it will be for me to get at least a supplemental housing contract? As I said, I will transfer to pennstate for spring 2014.
I read at some posts that people just called the housing-staff and got immediatly housing contracts for supplemental housing. Should I call them or do you think the waitlist is enough?

Thanks for all answers!

I would recommend calling. Can never hurt.

Hi PennsyDad!
Thanks for your answer. Which office should I call for supplemental housing? There are so many contacts listed on the housing website and I am unsure which is the right to call for supplemental housing.
And what exactly should I ask for? just asking about getting a contract?

Thanks for your help!!

I am not an expert on housing by any means. I was just suggesting that it could not hurt to call. I would call one of the housing numbers, briefly explain that you are an international student that is unfamiliar with the supplemental housing process and ask if they can help you or get you to someone who can. I have found people are generally helpful when someone reaches out in a polite manner and does do in an upfront way. Good luck.

I’m in supplemental housing right now with 7 other people, and to be honest, it’s not a ton of fun. Since you’ve already accepted your offer of admission, I wouldn’t even worry about it. My roommates and I all accepted our offers really late (Late April), which is probably why we got supplemental.

Hi dbg2700,

to be honest I am a kind of scared about living with 7 other girls in just one room, also because I don’t like bunk beds ^^ but since I am from Germany, it is really hard for me to figure out a place to live off campus. So, before I need to look by myself where I could find a place to sleep, I would definitely prefer supplemental ;)

I guess you were accepted for fall? because I am accepted for spring, the waitlist started at ocotber 1st and I was able to write my name on it at the end of ocotber… so I think I am pretty late as well. Also, I am a transfer student and not a freshmen…

Do you know how likely it will be for me to get a contract, also supplemental? Or do you knoe from your friends in general how many students from the waitlist will get a supplemental contract?

Since you’re going in for the Spring semester, then I really don’t know. I would just call housing then.

Sorry haha.

I found this number on the Penn State Global programs website, this should help, and if its not the right one I’m sure they’ll direct you to the proper people
