Does anyone have any info on the housing at penn state? Is it nice there? Also, what are the best ones to apply to?

Would like to add on to his post. If you have not applied for housing, but you do now wish to attend, are you guaranteed at least supplemental housing? How does this whole process work if you have not completed a contract, were offered admission, and would now like to accept? Is there somewhere to go now to get housing (website, also received a form with admission package that was not mailed in yet). Thank you.

cool108, I'm in the same position - I'm sending in my acceptance notification tomorrow.

http://www.hfs.psu.edu/housing/story1.shtml I guess we can try to get what we can off of this website.

As for which are the "better" dorms, people can go here: http://www.hfs.psu.edu/housing/firstyear/benefits.shtml and scroll down the sidebar on the left to see your options and what not. And in your initial admission packet, there's a few blurbs on the dorms in that "housing guide for first-year students" thing.

I do believe that Freshman are guaranteed housing

lol yea i didn't know that it was so competative for housing. It would be hard to believe, however, that if you don't reserve housing fast enough you cannot attend because you have no where to live.

Also, is this housing payment of $100 binding? Or if you choose not to enroll can you get out of it?

you are guarenteed housing freshman year and are required to live on campus. I think if i remember the 100 is binding but you can get the tuition deposit back. The only thing is that you have to accept by May 1st at almost every school so there really is no bennefit of sending it in now as opposed to when you decide.

The sooner you send in your housing deposit, the better your chance at getting your first choice of housing (ie. special interest housing or dorm area). The last ones to send in their deposit are more likely to end up in supplemental housing. On my d's floor in Pollock, there were 8 girls sharing a tv lounge together for the entire first semester. Yes, you are guaranteed housing, but could end up with supplemental like them.
