Supplemental housing Questions

Do you get your own dresser, desk, and is the closet situation like? In other words do I need to bring a tub of some sort or what?

On average how big are these dorms and will they be big enough to reasonably accomodate four people?

Are there usually weird people who are in supplemental housing? Is it possible to get any studying done in the "dorm"?

Is there a locking door or will crackheads be allowed to come in our room and kill us?

Plus, is theft is a problem a big problem in the dorms?

thanks for any help

As a person who got supplemental housing, I am offended by your "weird people" remark!!! (;))

anyway, I don't really know because I've never been to UT, but here are some things I heard from some friends who visited.

Most supplemental rooms are "converted study lounges with beds. They tend to be larger than regular rooms and many are carpeted. Every supplemental room has a microfridge, cable tv outlet, internet port, telephone plug, desks and clothing space. Supplemental space is located in almost every residence hall." (quoted from the UT housing site, http://www.utexas.edu/student/housing/index.php?site=1&scode=4&id=747&flash_vr&menu=169 )

Just because people have supplemental housing does not mean they are WEIRD, it just means the people who have supplemental housing were late in sending in the $50 + application because we were a) not sure if we were going to UT, b) too lazy, c) didn't know, d) other:D

I am pretty sure it is a locking door, otherwise, the students would have all rallied in front of the housing department and demanded privacy. (Besides, I think the previous people would have made arrangements w/ security issues while they were living there last year.) IF a crackhead wanted to kill us all, I highly doubt there will be so many people living on campus.

Theft, I heard, is something that you can prevent. Sure, there are thieves who WILL take your stuff REGARDLESS of your security measures(may they rot in h***), but as long as you a)lock your door ALWAYS, b) keep your valuables locked safely hidden away in the place only you know, and c) buy something (like a lock) to keep things safe, I don't see how a thief can take your iPod unless you leave your door hanging open and your iPod on your desk.

Studying in the dorm? gee, I don't know..depends on your roommates, I guess. the best solution is go to the study lounge(ha! supplemental people already live there) or the library:D

anyway, don't worry, I heard we stay in supplemental for probably a month, and with the new dorm (Duren) opening in spring, I'm sure there will be lots of spaces open by then.

sorry, it was poorly worded about the weird part, i just did not want to end up with bad roomates
