I worked on a very specific research project during the summer of my junior year. My data will be published in a national science journal. I wrote a little bit about it in my UPenn application brag sheet, but should I add a supplemental letter explaining it in detail? My supervisor said he’d mention it in his rec letter, but he’s going to focus more on my personality than my work.

I dont' think it's necessary if both you and your supervisor are mentioning it already. You should give them the article though.

Actually, it hasn't been published yet. ^_^; See, I didn't write the article. My supervisor will do that. He will write an article using my data...sometime soon.
