Son will graduate HS with 4 (maybe 5) music credits. Although he has no plans to major in Music, a few CC posters have mentioned the value of a submitting a recording of his performance along with his college apps.

2 Questions:

I saw no information about supplementary materials on the application section of the UR webiste. Does UR take supplementary materials?

If UR accepts supplementary materials, and say Son is accepted, would his acceptance be contingent on participating in a band, etc?

Thanks.

Hi DougBetsy--

Welcome to the conversation about Richmond. If your son doesn't wish to continue to participate in music in college, the value of sending the supplementary materials is not high. We do receive supplementary materials but mostly from those who are seeking scholarships based on talent, in which case they would be required to continue to participate in music/dance/theatre/arts (whichever is their thing). Otherwise, we discourage tapes, CD's etc. While we'd be interested in them, we just don't have time to evaluate them when the student doesn't plan to contribute to that area of campus life. Unless the student receives a scholarship in a particular area, they are under no obligation to participate in that area even if they did send the additional materials or the area was a highlight of their application.

I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need further clarification. I look forward to working with you in in your son's college search.
