Supplementary Rec. Letter

Yale's website has almost no info regarding the optional (but heavily discouraged) supplementary letter of recommendation. Is it possible to submit the supplementary letter online or does it have to go via snail mail?

Please reply ASAP
Thanks!

Also, if the additional recommendation letter is written by someone other than a teacher, does it need to accompany a specific form like the teacher evaluation form?

I really want to submit a supplementary letter of rec. but I don’t know if I should. Past admitted students’ thoughts on the topic? What did you guys do?

I have a similar question. I want to submit a letter of recommendation as part of the optional arts supplement because the Common Application arts supplement asks for one, but the online submission forms for the arts supplement at Yale don’t allow you to do that. What should I do?

To answer your question, I know you can submit that optional rec letter via snail mail.

Follow Yale’s guideline that the supplementary recommendation should say things about you that cannot be found elsewhere within the application (i.e. your teacher recommendations, counselor form/school report, etc.). A good example might be a leader within a community organization that you work with. This person may see you in a very different light than what your teachers might. Even then, the emphasis of this letter should be on information that is not found elsewhere within the application. Repeat information is probably not looked upon very kindly by the adcoms.

^ what if some info is repeated, but a couple pieces of really important information not found elsewhere are there?

@theweester: that should be okay, the main thrust of the supplementary letter should be info not found elsewhere.
