@Debs14 - My son lived in Morrill, so I can answer a few of your questions. A small rug in the bed area as well as desk area are nice to have. There is only 1 window in the room and it has a heavy curtain on it already. The desk light is very florescent, so a separate desk lamp may be more pleasant. The rooms are air-conditioned, so I don’t think he’ll need a fan.

There’s not much room for additional storage shelves - I think there are 1 or 2 shelves above each desk, the closets and some space between the closet and the bed - this is where the plastic unit could go (or in the closet). There are built-in dressers and I think 1 drawer can be locked - bring your own lock.

My son was in a double and had tons of space in these rooms. Back in the day, I lived in Morrill and all rooms were quads then - it’s tight, but doable and you meet lots of people! Good luck!

Thanks Bearvet, that was very helpful. I saw the floor plan, but couldn’t figure the need for the items mentioned; light, rugs & storage units! Just trying to have everything covered before move in day.

@jack992 I live in Neil. The amount of room you have depends on what type of room you have. The singles have really good closet space, like maybe 4-5’. The quads are a little smaller, but not by much. I can’t comment on the ‘2 rooms for 4’ type rooms, as I’ve never stayed in one.

As far as what to expect, Neil is a very calm and quiet dorm. It’s not like the traditional dorms, where you have people with their doors open, hanging out and partying. People just kind of keep to themselves.

The room have kitchens with a stove, oven, refrigerator, and some even have a dishwasher, so you don’t have to buy a meal plan. I’m lazy, and would much rather catch the elevator downstairs, to MarketPlace! Speaking of which, I think that is one of the best perks of Neil. Not many of the dorms have a dining hall and C store, in the same building.

You’ll have your own restroom in your suite. It’s only shared by you and your suite-mates, or roommates, or no one, depending on your room type. You’ll be responsible for cleaning your own restroom. They supply you with toilet paper at the front desk, but any other supplies are on you.

@Debs14 - You’re welcome. My son also had a clip-on lamp for his bed in case he wanted to read there. Also he liked one of those backrest pillows for that. I don’t remember about a cushion for the desk chair, but you’ll be very close to a Target and Bed Bath & Beyond if you need to pick up a few things.

By living area do you mean where the desks are? If so, then I’d go smaller - 5x8 will be fine (and still may be too big).Near the beds is a small area - more like a small runner. If you mean the common area (with sofa, etc) I believe that is carpeted. They always seem to recommend rugs that are too large for the dorms - we’ve had to cut more than one! We’ve had 1 kid in south campus dorm, 1 kid on west campus and 1 kid on north campus!

I plan on going to OSU next year and hope to live in South Campus (preferably either Smith-Steebe, Park-Stradley, or Seibert. Can anyone give any advice on what type of storage/how much of it to bring? I have been in one dorm room (I think it was in Park-Stradley) and it was fairly small, so I want to make sure I have enough storage for all my stuff. Thanks!
