supplies

obviously i know to bring paper/writing stuff but is there anything in particular we should bring with us? maybe a printer or something?

shower sandals (i forgot those), bathroom supplies (toothbrush, soap,...), linens, it cost money to print here so a printer would be a good idea, washing detergent, mouse + mousepad, dvds, snacks. Just about everything you need can be bought at the bookstore, or at the stanford shopping district. bikes are extremely convenient, so you should probably buy one. You can get one at the stanford bike store for about $350, buy one at the shopping district for about $100, or bring your own. The advantage of the bike store is that they provide free tune ups if you buy their bikes, and they are supposedly more durable.

Are you talking about things to bring from home, or things you need to buy when you're there?

pacers is right that most everything can be bought there, either on or off campus, so don't feel like you have to grab everything you need from home. Be sure though, not to forget things like power cords, electronic accessories, etc. as those are often expensive to replace and easily forgotten.

I can't really think of anything in particular that you need to bring that is Stanford specific that won't be on any other generic list for packing for college, but I'll try and come up with some of the things I wished I had during my first year.

A fan. Sometimes it gets hot, especially during the beginning of fall quarter and the end of spring quarter, air movement will keep your rooms cooler.

Sunglasses. It gets sunny in California, what else can I say.

A nice set of evening attire. You'll probably find at least one occasion during the year for which a nice (read: business casual) set of clothes would be appropriate.

Computer Install CD's. Not Stanford specific, but you'll need them anyway and you won't want to have forgotten them.

One business casual and one formal outfit would be smart, maybe a semi-formal outfit too if you happen to have it. You could always have those shipped of course. It's useful to have a towel/blanket if you want to study outside when it's nice and sunny, which you probably well at least once.

i forgot, two things you WILL need. Power strip and Ethernet cord. also, usb hub for your computer and a cell phone
