support, refute, or a little bit of both?

I'm wondering if it is okay to write a pro paragraph and then a con paragraph in the same essay for the essay part of the SAT.
Did anyone do his/her essay like that and got a 12?
I really want to know about it because sometimes I can't think of examples
for one argument. Please comment on it even if you don't really know about
it. Thank you in advance!

Both the SAT and ACT ask a writer to take a stance on the question at hand. I would think if you did a paragraph on both sides of an issue, you would come across as indecisive, I personally would not do that.

HOWEVER, in my experience, graders (aka my teachers) always encourage MENTIONING the opposition in an essay, but then provide evidence to support your own argument. "Although" is a good word... ie "Although etc etc, this proves that etc etc etc..."

You should mention the other side, but quickly refute it. If you state the cons, you will be weakining the essay. You are not moterating a disagreement, but trying to pursuade the other side. Only mention the other side, and you should, to quickly and STRONGLY refute it.
