Hi surfers out there who attend UCSB! I am attempting to decide between UCI and UCSB for my TAG from a community college. I am in love with surfing, and plan on continuing to do it most mornings before school. I understand that Santa Barbara has world class breaks, but they do not seem to go off to often. My question to surfers from UCSB is how often is there decent waves what places do you normally surf on a daily basis?
Not a student, but… Campus Point is on campus (duh), and Coal Oil Point is on the far side of Isla Vista. Not giving any secrets away by listing these two; they are well publicized. If you’re a surfer you know how to use Surfline and Google Maps, so check those out. Campus Point has a live cam. Wave season is November through March or so. Channel Islands tend to block south and southwest swell. It will break occasionally during summer, just expect small and inconsistent.
Forecast for Saturday, Nov. 19 is 4-6 ft, but more typically it’s in the 1-3 range. Bring a longboard.
