What is the surf scene like? Are there a good number of kids that rip? Is Sands the most consistent everyday spot? What are the best dorms to stay in if you surf everyday?

I actually don’t attend UCSB, but I was recently admitted for Fall 2013. I’ve been there many times to surf. It’s pretty much dead during Spring and you can forget about surfing during the summer because most, if not all, of the southern swell is blocked by the channel islands. The water is cold so you’ll need a 3/4, although I use my 3/2 and I usually can last for a good 1 hour. When it’s firing, It’s amazing because there aren’t that many people who surf and most of the spots around campus are empty. Well, not empty, but compared to Malibu pier where there are sometimes 100+ fighting for one wave, it’s empty. There’s usually 5 people at a spot and it’s not unusual to be alone sometimes. I think Coal Point is probably the best spot on campus. It’s an amazing left that reminds me of Malibu pier, but minus 100 people. I swear I saw like 30 good waves gone to waste because no one was surfing.
