accents are hot (: People won't mind, they'll probably think it's cool.

I'm Asian, and I have a British accent.

I'm known at school for being the "asian girl with the british harry potter-ish accent".

don't worry, it's a great icebreaker, and most of the time what people will say is "OMG I WANT TO HAVE YOUR ACCENT. CAN I STEAL IT? CAN I BORROW IT?" you'll find that people will make jokes, but your accent will def. make you stand out and memorable. i've become used to people telling me i should try out for harry potter, and asking me to say words such as "bloke". Americans seem to be fascinated with accents!

best of luck ! :)

Hey, I'm Russian, but I have lived in the US most of my life so I am accent free. However, with friends, I like to throw out the Russian accent once in a while, and my friends love it. Be proud of your accent!!

A study, I think it was, found that waiters/waitresses with accents got more tips. :] Americans love accents.

@athenegoddess: That's so awesome!! You must be adorable. (I mean that in a non-sketchy way.)

Accents are awesome! The only downside to them is sometimes there are some people who choose to "block out" comprehension of what someone is trying to say, as if they cannot understand what the person speaking accented English is saying. Even if someone speaks fairly clearly in english, if they have an accent there are a few people that have the tendency to not understand them anyways (the large majority of the time it is not intentional)

What do people think about Australian accents?

^ Extremely awesome.

yeah, austrailian accents are sweet

My boyfriend is Spanish, when he moved here in 11th grade he barely spoke any English. At first people made fun of him, but in an endearing way, not to be mean. IE, he still can't hear/say the difference between sit/st and beach/b*h. Just laugh along with it and everyone will think you have a great sense of humor. Personally, I love his accent, I think it's adorable as heck.

Australian accents are one of the coolest things I've ever heard.

Lol i had to come from China...You will be fine

To join the chorus of accents rock, I'll just say that, well, accents rock. My good friend is Venezualan, and we think her accent is so cute. Usually, no one even says anything about it, and if they do, it's just "Say that again!" There will be the odd arshehole who wants to bring you down, but usually those are the kind of people who have already insulted everyone else in the class, and so no one pays attention to them (Oh, there goes Jonathon again. Geez, he's really insecure...). I have a feeling you'll be warmly welcomed with an accent :).

catsushi: haha thanks :) I got a lot of "you should try out for cho chang" comments when HP3 and 4 were filming, lol.

to the OP, all i can say is that yes, some people will put you down, but just smile and shrug it off. And honestly, the positives outweigh the negatives :)

I am sure the gay accent is much worse.
