Susan Hockfield inauguration

I just watched the webcast of this, and it was much more interesting than I would have guessed. Lots of pomp and ceremony, and an excellent speech by the new president. Available here:

She seems very nice (met her at the Block Party).

I also saw her randomly in the Infinite this morning. That's something I never saw during the Chuck Vest years.

i've run into her several times walking through main campus, at least once when i was cussing loudly while talking to friends. last finals week, when she'd just moved in, i baked her family a plate of brownies as a gesture of neighbourly welcome. i'm not sure what she thought of them, however, as i was out of town when we hosted her for dinner. i should watch her speech, when i'm at a useful computer.

I don't understand this--there was no hack?

Yes there was. Afterwards they unrolled a banner saying "The king is dead;long live the queen" with a king and queen of hearts on it. At least that's what I think.

actually, it was a queen of hearts, and a jack [florey] of spades w/ an ihtfp on it. also, the dollar bill mural that sits in front of the cashier's office on the infinite had Washington's face replaced with Hockfield's. see the mural and the banner.

Actually, it's a queen of MIT and a jack of domes. I didn't realize people had been confused about that, but I guess it was a bit difficult to see from far away.
