Sushi Bar at WUSTL

Ok, I'm gonna be honest. I llllooooovvvvveeeee sushi. So, when an admissions officer mentioned that WUSTL had a sushi bar, I went crazy. Now, my question is: is the sushi all you can eat for a set price, or paying X amount for each plate? Also, is the any good?

LOL. We have sushi on campus too. But it's kinda expensive...7-8 bucks for 8 pieces of sushi.

That's awesome...
but $1/piece for what I'm assuming is prefab sushi is very steep.

All of the food on campus is pretty solid quality. I think I saw a claim somewhere that it's all made from scratch on-site, but I don't know if that's true or not. As I don't really care for sushi, I couldn't tell you much about the sushi bar though I'm afraid.

And yeah, $7-8 is steep, but it's more useful to look at the meal-plan pricing than the actual item costs. On a Meals Plus plan, which is what I use, $7-8 for a meal isn't really an issue at all. With that being said, the plans themselves aren't exactly modestly priced.

I have had it a few times on visits. It is good, but not fancy. Pretty much the standard plastic bento boxes you can get in high end grocery stores. There are rolls and a little nigiri too. It was a reasonable price, no bargain, but not overpriced either. I cannot tell if it is made on site or not. If not, it is fresh. You could easily grab a box and save it in your fridge for later.

Note that the Asian station at the DUC (where the sushi is available) is only open on weekdays from 11am to 3pm for lunch, so it is not like you can eat there for every meal anyway. It does make for something different and a nice treat now and then. You can also always take the Metrolink over to the West Campus station and eat at the Japanese sushi restaurant over there (although you will pay with real money and the price is even higher.)

I had always assumed the sushi was made elsewhere, but I remember on Inauguration Day seeing an article in Student Life about our "University Sushi Chef" carving a statue of Obama out of ice:

I was just amazed to find out we actually had a "University Sushi Chef"!

I can make sushi myself!!
