My first semester freshman year (this past fall), I was placed on disciplinary probation, and then had a serious alcohol violation following that. I was suspended for the rest of the semester. I appealed the suspension, was able to finish the fall semester and was reinstated for the Spring semester following the completion of alcohol counseling over break.

I went back this semester, and had a new roommate. I was still drinking and smoking a little bit, but being responsible about doing it. My roommate reported me for being drunk and smoking weed, which they were able to prove based my roommate and his friend's admission of seeing me possess paraphernalia.

I was suspended for the remainder of this spring semester, and the fall. Upon completion of more alcohol/drug counseling I can return in the Fall.

Is this something that will permanently damage my resume? Will another school take me?
I do attend one of the top 10 undergrad business programs in the country.

Transcript- probably ruined. Check how your school reports suspensions.

Your resume will have big blanks of time for your suspensions. Both schools and employers will ask about them.

Will another school take you? Impossible to predict.

Next step- rehab? If you were not able to stop the drinking and weed after the first suspension, maybe you can’t control your habits or you could not imagine the consequences. Please discuss this option with your parents.

Where I go to school, no one gets in any serious trouble for drinking. If you do get caught (and only an RA has the power to report such an incident to the Office of Residential Life) they usually banish you to the crappiest dorms on campus the following semester and report the incident to your parents.

However, if you are caught with illegal drugs, such a charge usually results in immediate expulsion from the university, with little chance for appeal.

I highly recommend in enrolling in rehab. Clean yourself up, don’t drink or smoke weed ever again, and finish your education already.

Excuse me. Could be a mistake on my part. But I have heard that they do notify parents if you become intoxicated to the point where you require hospitalization.

Yep, your parents are usually put down as emergency contacts.

And don’t take Jim’s advice seriously. You obviously have a problem if after being suspended temporarily for drinking, you continued to drink and even smoke. Were you doing it in the dorm?

So I’m guessing the OP goes to either Notre Dame or BYU. That’s gotta suck. Alcohol violations elicit little more than a yawn at most schools and possession is usually a wrist slap unless you’re dealing or something.

what is a “serious alcohol violation”? At my school, most of those policies are hardly enforced and you need to have 2+ incidents just to get onto disciplinary probation

Depending on the college and your family, it might be better to have died of organ failure on a slab at the local E.R. than to be caught with illegal drugs. Well, it wouldn’t be better but it’d be really, really close.

But for real, on a serious note, CUT the weed and alcohol. You’ve already gotten in some major trouble…don’t you think it’s time to knock it out? You said you have been suspended for two semesters (this one including the fall?). Are you sure college is something you want to do? It doesn’t seem like you’re responsible enough to get through college, and you’re just wasting money bro.

Go back to rehab and do some community college. Oh, and work at a fast food restaraunt for a few months. Maybe that’ll motivate you enough to get your act together.

I disagree. The roommate was not a for ratting anyone out because the roomie could have gotten in big trouble as well for some stupid crap the OP was doing in THEIR room.
